Teen Helper Program
[ BACK TO TOP ˆ ]

TCEC has had a Teen Helper Program for the past 20 years. We hire about 7-10 teens ages 16 to 19 to help with our After School and Summer Programs for children ages 7 to 12 years old. They receive job training with our TCEC staff and help in our programs. A good entry into the work force!

Summer Program
[ BACK TO TOP ˆ ]

Summer, always a fun time at the Tutwiler Community Ed. Center. Children and teens can come into the air conditioned Center, away from the Mississippi hot sun and humidity and have a good time. Exercise and games in the gym, cooking healthy snacks, creative art projects, playing games with your friends, working on the computer, being part of the photography club, music, swimming in Clarksdale and Tunica, and skating in Cleveland, MS. All add up to an enriching summer for our Tutwiler children and teens.

Athletic Program

The TCEC Athletic Program is a favorite for all ages. Fromour 7 year olds to our senior citizens, all love to come to the gym to walk, exercise, do aerobics, play fitness games, kickball, volleyball, tennis, and the big favorite, basketball. Our gym is a place to see your friends, exercise, and have a good time. The coaching staff are people who know about sports, and also know about teamworks, sportsmanship, and building charactdr. Our gym is not just a place for sports, but a place to learn positive values, interact with positive role models and have fun. TCEC Gym is a great place to be!

Sonny Boy Williamson Legacy Music Education and Performance Program of Tutwiler

The music program was founded by famous harmonica player, Jon Gindick, in honor of bluesman Sonny Boy Williamson II, who is buried just outside of town. Servicing 30 to 40 kids each year, the program has run for three years and relies on fundraisers and donation gifts of all sizes.

Tutwiler Quilters
[ BACK TO TOP ˆ ]

The Tutwiler Quilt Program started in 1989, to preserve the quilting tradition of the area and a way for our women to make money for themselves and their families, and is still going strong. We recently celebrated our 25th anniversary and invited back former quilters. It was a great reunion with many happy memories.

You can also check out their own site here for more information on ordering and their history.
